We do not use forever chemicals in the creation of our products. No PFAS. No PFOA. No PTFE. We do not chemically wrinkle-proof, water-proof, or pre-shrink our products. They are as pure and natural as the time when humans were making natural fiber clothing by hand before mass production and industrialization came along. This is why we continue to make our products in small batches (mass production requires homogeneity and synthetics to speed up production).
We use natural dyes, clay dyes, and organic fiber-reactive dyes made in Switzerland. We do not use dispersed dyes.
The natural color varies from batch to batch. Our organic cotton linen hemp and merino fibers are untreated living fibers. They will respond to how they are worn and ambient climate, relaxing / stretching as they are worn and retracting after each wash. Mild biodegradable detergents, laundry net bags, lukewarm water, and a rack to lay your delicate products to dry are your best friends. So is a steam iron that can shape your products back to original, like-new condition.
We cannot guarantee a specific shade of natural as shades may be darker if the harvest season is rainy or lighter if it is sunny. This is not within our control. Shade of fiber-reactive dyed products may also vary from batch to batch as our living fiber reacts to a catalytic, fiber-reactive dye differently each time.
We do not use bleach. We wash our fabrics using organic, biodegradable, unscented detergent made in Switzerland. While unscented, our organic products are not scent-free, because we do not chemically strip our organic cotton, linen, hemp, merino fibers of their natural oils and scents. The scents you may pick up in our products come from the natural fiber, from the biodegradable detergent, from plant scents, and from fermentation in the dyeing process.
We use specially designed organic elastic made from 50% organic cotton and 50% natural rubber. Many of our labels are made from natural European oak and organic cotton. Our buttons are carved from natural tagua nuts and coconuts. Our sewing threads are either 100% organic cotton (whenever practicable) or cotton-covered polyester (for products that need extra flexibility or strength). We use premium YKK zippers made in Japan from recycled components. Most of our products are packaged in biodegradable cellophane bags.
Per a majority of our customers’ requests we do package our products in plastic to protect them from contamination and water or other damage in transit. If you need your order to be plastic-free, please let us know in the Comments box at Checkout. Please do so at your own risk, as we will then not be able to accept a claim of damage or contamination in transit.
All products leave our warehouse in new condition. Some that are not in bags may have been taken out to ascertain sizing or color shade for a customer.
While all of our products are non-toxic, our Purity Collection takes it to the highest level: The synthetics-free socks, underwear, clothing and home products in this rarified collection are completely plastic-free and polyester-free, making them 100% biodegradable.
Thank you for your understanding. And thank you for choosing organic, sweatshop-free and biodegradable. Rawganique has existed since 1997 because of customers like you who appreciate and value small scale, truly pure products made from nature with lots of thought, creativity and love.
We abhor plastic as much as the next eco-minded person. However, over the years, we have learned that many of our chemically sensitive customers need plastic package for our organic products to arrive safely at their homes. This is why we use biodegradable cellophane bags to package most of our products. Plastic protects products against rainy days and against scents and other contaminants in transit. We try to use as little plastic as possible in packaging. Customers can opt for plastic-free packaging and we will use paper and cardboard to send their orders instead. However, if you choose to request plastic-free packaging, please be prepared to accept the risks of products getting damaged or contaminated in transit; we will not be able to accept a claim if something happens to the contents of the package. You can request plastic-free packaging by writing a note in the “COMMENTS” box at checkout. Thank you for your understanding.
