100% Wild Kapok Contour Pillow
Our wild-crafted kapok pillows are special. Kapok is a big tropical tree that yields puffs of downy cotton-like materials that have been used for centuries to fill bedding (see our video below). We select only the finest wild kapok down to use in our handmade sustainable kapok pillows.
Unlike silk and down, which kapok resembles, our kapok is completely natural and vegan and 100% plant-based. Our chemical-free kapok pillow feels like a cross between down and silk pillow and cotton pillow. It's soft and resilient like silk and down but not as firm as cotton.
Our vegan 100% kapok pillows provide an attractive 100% natural alternative to cotton-filled and wool-filled pillows.
The kapok pillow is extremely rare and unique. The ticking is made with 100% organic cotton fabric. Kapok trees grow in rain-forest climates. They grow wild all over Thailand and Singapore. They produce a filling that retains its springiness better than cotton and come out ready to use, without further processing.
Kapok trees are HUGE trees (similar in size to oak and maple and walnut trees). Our kapok fill is wild-harvested from these gigantic trees, so no organic certification is necessary (the same way that one would not certify an oak tree organic). No pesticides, no GMO, just wondrous wild beauty of a truly natural product that comes ready to use from nature.
Optional 100% organic cotton pillowcases also available, as are organic linen pillowcases, organic hemp pillowcases, and organic cotton pillowcases in different fabrics.
Question of natural and organic kapok: Kapok trees are equivalent to forest trees like oak, cedar, and fir. They grow to tremendous heights and widths in the tropics. They are not commonly cultivated like cotton, but instead they are typically wild-harvested in their natural habitat. So they are natural and organic, they are just not certified as such, as certification is more commonly aimed at cultivated crops like corn and cotton which normally require fertilizers and pesticides. Kapok does not need either, in the same way that oak trees and cedar trees in the wild do not.
Made in the US. Sweatshop-free.
