Size Guide

Our heritage-style hemp shower curtain adds rustic texture & interest to your bath, without any toxins. Made from 100% organic hemp, without the impressive long list of chemicals in conventional & synthetic curtains: no herbicides and pesticides on the fields, no chemicals in processing & finishing, and nothing but 100% hemp in the fabric. This is the purest natural fiber curtain on earth. Use our handmade hemp macrame rings to hang it as either window coverings, blackout curtains, or shower curtain, and you’ve made a huge leap forward in banishing toxins from your home. Also available in stall size (48”x72”). Comes with extra 8” length to allow for shrinkage.

Watch VDO in Image Gallery for more info. 1) Use with or without a liner 2) Optional: Add our 100% natural wax 5oz bar ($3 off when purchased here with the curtain) to waterproof the curtain. Wash following care instructions before applying wax. Wax the water side plus 10" on the bottom of the other side or wax both sides. A wax bar does one side of a 48x72 (stall-size) curtain. Waxing Ivory or Natural will darken it with the amber color of the wax. 3) It's important to have good ventilation in the bathroom (best to leave a small fan on pointing towards the shower curtain - this helps to keep your air fresh & bathroom healthy 4) Watch out for soap and shampoo scum and wash the curtain as needed 5) Waxed curtains are no longer machine washable. Reapply the wax every year or two or as needed. Wipe with damp cloth to clean. Use our Castile soap canvas cleaner for a deeper clean.

100% Organic Hemp Full Shower Curtain (Vinyl-Free, PVC-Free, No Off-Gassing)

The steam of the hot shower has its usual relaxing effect on you, and you breathe deeply as you part the hemp shower curtain and reach for your towel. You think of the ages of use of hemp, long before synthetic fibers and chemicals got invented. Before modern society even. You think of hemp fiber as a direct thread linking us to our ancestors in past centuries. The deep texture of the hollow core fibers gives it a rustic yet artisanal flair and depth to the color, and every visitor notices it with appreciation. A vinyl-free, natural fabric shower curtain is such a rarity nowadays - unlike asthma and allergies. You still smile as you step out of the bathroom.

The hemp macrame rings with wooden ball closures, naturally plastic-free, slide easily on the curtain rod. The 10oz hemp canvas drapes beautifully and freely since you keep the edges away from the shower base to allow for free air circulation. Since you made a habit of using a small plug-in fan and aiming it at the curtain, you’ve noticed the curtain dry very quickly, and the air smell fresher. You only wish you had known sooner, then you didn’t have to deal with the mold & mildew around the tub and in grout lines which had bothered for all those years.

There are only two kinds of people - those who know about the toxic chemicals that PVC shower curtains outgas, and those that don’t. What we all have in common though is that our health tends to suffer from such exposure. And now that you’ve read about it you can’t even claim ignorance anymore. But despair not - you are looking right at the solution.

Our full shower curtain is made completely chemical-free from 100% organic European hemp. Featuring handmade hemp macramé rings with untreated wooden closures. Dye-free Natural, Ivory, and 14 eco-colors. Perfect as room divider & window curtain, or beach shower curtain, too.

Style: Full size hemp shower or window curtain. 12 button holes for the hemp macramé rings with wooden ball closure, or your own rings.

Colors: Natural (unbleached & dye-free), Ivory (hydrogen-peroxided), and biodegradable, low-impact eco-dyed Black, Brown, Evening Mist, Russet Orange, Key Lime, Terra Cotta, Black Platinum Chambray, Sage, Deep Charcoal, Pomegranate, Plum, Alpine Meadow Blue, Indigo, Burgundy

Origin: Made at Rawganique Atelier in Europe

Features:

  • Breathable & fast drying
  • PVC-free
  • Biodegradable
  • Hypoallergenic
  • Plastic-free. Metal-free.
  • Sweatshop-free. Vegan. Eco-friendly.
  • All Rawganique products are free from 'forever chemicals' such as PFAS.

Care: Machine wash with like colors - cold or warm water, linen/delicate setting. Best to hang to dry. Steam-iron at linen setting, if desired. We recommend line-drying but if you must, tumbling dry on low heat (remove promptly) is also possible.

Biodegradable detergent and front-loading machines always preferred. 1/2 cup of borax or 1/4 cup of distilled white vinegar can be added to the wash to prevent/cure mildew.

Washing the curtain every few weeks helps prevent the buildup of soap residues, which are clogging the fiber openings and causing mold to start.

Keep off wet floors and stretched out on rod at all times to prevent moisture buildup. Keep bathroom well-ventilated. Air must be able to circulate ALL around the wet curtain to prevent buildup of mold.

Leave a small fan on in your bathroom. It will be a revelation how fresh and dry everything is. It’s a must especially if there is no window and in certain wet climates.

To line or not to line? While it is the most exciting thing in the world to use hemp instead of plastic or PVC as a shower curtain, there are considerations on whether to wax it or use it with a liner. We have been making organic hemp shower curtains and organic cotton shower curtains since 1997. We have gathered tons of feedback from actual customers as well as our own experience. The verdict is this. For people who consider this a huge investment (compared to sweatshop PVC and plastic curtains) that they want to last forever, use a liner. We have had countless customers write in that they use their hemp shower curtains without a liner and their curtains have lasted for years, 5, 10 years or longer. For them and for us, it's totally worth it to use a hemp shower curtain on its own without a liner. It's like planting a tree whose zone is marginal in your area - there are elements of risk involved; there might be a freak year where the weather goes much lower than your average and you might lose the tree. But you plant it anyway for the joy and pleasure of the fruits it will provide you however many years it survives. The price you pay for your new hemp shower curtain is a function of natural organic fibers as well as sweatshop-free labor. There is not much margin left over, just enough for us to continue to make awesome hemp products. We aren't able to guarantee what will happen to your hemp shower curtain as there are so many factors involved in its durability, such as the moisture level in your area, in your bathroom, the kinds of soap or shampoo you use, and the fact that it is 100% from nature and hence will react to your local conditions, as opposed to something that is synthetically or chemically produced. If you still wish to use your hemp shower curtain without a liner, there are some measures you can take that will exponentially increase the chance of your hemp shower curtains lasting for many, many years.

The biggest enemies of hemp shower curtains? Mold and mildew. As you will see when you receive your hemp shower curtain, while we have selected the most robust, strong, and beautiful hemp weave imaginable to my our hemp shower curtain, it's still a 100% plant-based and 100% natural product. If mold or mildew gets a start on your hemp shower curtain and multiply, your hemp shower curtain may only last 6 months or one year or two years before the mold eats away at your hemp shower curtain. How does mold start? On a surface that is constantly moist in a space that is not well ventilated. Bodycare residues like soap scum and shampoo scum are another enemy of the hemp shower curtain. You will notice that your new hemp shower curtain only takes 15-60 minutes to dry when hung off the floor or away from the side of the bathtub. As soap scum attaches itself to the curtain, the curtain will take longer and longer to dry because soap scum clogs the fibers of your hemp shower curtain fabric, which will eventually lead to mildew and mold. That is why it's important to use borax or some other natural cleaner to wash away the soap scum. The main reason why some people's curtains last longer than others is in the body care products they use. Some soaps and shampoos leave more scum behind on a curtain than others.

What can you do to ensure that your hemp shower curtain stays "healthy"? Ventilate. Leave the fan on for 30-60 minutes after each time you use the curtain. Make sure the curtain is off the floor and away from the sides of bathtubs. Fresh air is great. Wash your curtain every 3-4 months and hang to dry (no dryer). Watch what kind of residues your soap or shampoo leave behind on the curtain. Then, chances are you'll notice any issues well before they develop. If you have a mold issue in your bathroom now, then our advice is to line your hemp shower curtain for sure. Many customers wax one side of the hemp shower curtain or the bottom half of one side (the side facing the water). This will protect your hemp shower curtain from getting wet, because the wax will make your hemp shower curtain waterproof. We offer this natural fabric wax that can be use for our hemp and organic cotton shower curtains as well as shoes, bags, hats, and jackets.

Since 1997, making our hemp shower curtains, we have received so many postive  happy feedback and responses from customers who are happy to have chemcial-free curtains in their bath rooms. In the rare instances where mold and mildew develop in a short time due to underlying existing moisture / black mold issues, customers were glad that the hemp shower curtain acted like a canary in the gold mine to warn them of potentially toxic black mold issues that would otherwise have gone unnoticed. They were able to have it remediated or, in the case of a rental, move out to avoid a potentially health-threatening situation, especially when it came to children or the elderly. Prevention is everything - please make sure to leave the fan on in the bathroom for circulation and dryness. You may also consider using our waterproofing 100% natural wax 5oz bar, to prevent the curtain staying wet too long in the moist environment.

Liner:

Can be used with liner for longer product life, or without.

Please do not use our hemp shower curtain without a liner if you are unsure about the moisture and ventilation situation in your bathroom, as we are not able to be responsible for individual bathroom mildew issues. While our hemp shower curtains are designed to be used without a liner, if you wish to keep your hemp shower curtain in new condition, a zero-VOC or low-VOC liner is recommended. Chances are, if you get mildew on your hemp shower curtain, you would also get it on plastic or organic cotton shower curtains too. Freely circulating fresh air is the best safeguard against fungus.

Other sizes: In the same style, these other sizes of hemp curtains are available: 24" x 72" mini stall, 48" x 72" stall, 48" x 86", 24" x 86".

1) IMPORTANT INFO RE: SIZING & CUT

Since 1997, Rawganique has been the unicorn, the one great big exception, of the garment industry, which is often associated with rampant wastes, sweatshop labor, and use of environmentally harmful toxic chemicals and dyes.

Our customers buy our clothing because they are handmade and truly natural and pure. So if you are new to us, welcome! If you are coming from mainstream chemical clothing, there are a few things to keep in mind so your expectations are realistic.

At Rawganique, we design products around the beauty and unique & boundless qualities of organic cotton, linen and hemp. Since we don't use toxic chemicals to dye, wrinkle-proof, stain-proof, size or de-lint our organic fabrics, our clothing will behave differently than the clothing you're used to.

If you throw a beautifully handcrafted hemp shirt into the dyer, it will shrink because pre-shrinking it involves chemicals that we will not use. Hanging the shirt to dry will preserve its beauty and allows you enjoy it for a long time to come.

Please bear in mind that the clothing we make are 100% organic and elastic-free and 100% natural; therefore, don't expect our clothing to fit like stretch jeans and tightly hugging stretch leggings with all the chemicals and synthetic fibers used to make that possible.

At Rawganique, we aim for a comfortable, handsome fit in our designs and sizing is approximate given our natural fabrics and small workshop size. We need to allow for fabrics to shrink in the case of woven hemp and linen or stretch in the case of organic cotton, linen and hemp knits. A pair of non-stretch pants that fit you like a glove will rip at the butt and thighs when you sit down because there is no polyester or spandex to help the pants stretch and expand when you sit.

2) ELASTIC-FREE SHORTS, SKIRTS, PANTS

A lot of our customers prefer to live a plastic-free, elastic-free life and many other need elastic-free clothing for their medical condition, so since 1997, Rawganique has always offered elastic-free organic cotton, linen and hemp clothing to fulfill these needs.

Elastic-free bottoms usually run bigger than their counterparts with elastic even though the pattern may be the same. Our Liszt boxers run bigger than the Mozart boxers even though the are based on the same pattern. That's because elastic band provides a compression that elastic-free drawstrings don't. The trick is to tie the strings tight, then distribute the folds front to back to smooth the wasitband. That said, most people can fit into 2-3 elastic-free sizes and can stand to go one size down from the size they would normally wear. This info will be pointed out on the relevant elastic-free clothign pages.

Notes Organic Fabric Fitting

Since our woven organic clothing do not contain synthetic or elastic fibers, please do not aim for a glove-tight fit as natural woven fabrics won't stretch the way elastic sythetic fabrics do. Our organic knits are stretchy and more hugging. Some of our organic clothing and bras are stretch organic cotton, meaning they have a small percentage of lycra or Spandex mixed in with organic cotton, resulting in s a "stretch" fit that is more hugging like regular clothing do. In general, we cut for comfort. Clothing that are not too tight are healthier for the body in the long run because the internal organs have room to do the work they have to do to keep us fit and healthy. We have had many customers tell us that wearing high elasticized shapewear for years resulted in many health issues. Even though they may create the hourglass figure, the health costs may be too high.

Please allow 0.2in - 0.25in toe room; so if your foot is 11.36in long, then size 44 (EU) 11 (US) would be the perfect size as it gives you 0.24" toe room to manoeuver in. Natural fabric shoes will also "give" some over time so aim for a snug fit at first (not tight tight) for a comfortable fit soon after.

Short Version Of Care Instructions

  • Special clothing requires special care.
  • Our organic garments prefer washers without agitating cores. Front loaders and core-less washers are preferred.
  • Organic hemp and linen clothing DO NOT like high dry heat. Hang woven clothing to dry. Lay knit clothing flat to dry on a garment rack or clean towel. This is to prevent them from stretching of out shape.
  • The organic cotton is OK with a dyer. Except for our unique 100% organic cotton fleece, which also prefers not to be in the dryer - the fleece also prefers to be washed separately from other garments because it will get lint on other garments for a few washes. Bigger items like fleece blankets can be dried in the machine on low heat, gentle cycle.
  • Use gentle biodegradable detergent. No bleach. No optical brighteners. No fabric softeners. Fabric softeners will clog the natural fabrics, leading to less breathability and breaking down of the fabrics. Oxygen-based whiteners are OK to use.
  • No dryer for face masks, sleep masks, bandanas, napkins. These are best submerged in boiling water for 30 seconds to clean, disinfect and sanitise. Then air dry and steam ironed as needed.
  • Dress jackets, lined dress pants, lined dresses and gowns, lined winter jackets are NOT machine washable or dryable. This is because the outer fabric and the liner may shrink at different rates.  They may be dry cleaned or wet cleaned at eco-friendly dry cleaners. Or gently wash by hand by agitating the garments in a basin of water which has been mixed with a mild detergent. Rinse and press water out, don't twist. Lay flat to dry. Many customers have reported that there are washing machines that have a hand wash cycle which work for these items as well.
  • Hats, bags, shoes and boots are NOT machine washable. There are a few exceptions which are machine washable such as beanie tuques, fleece hats, Kyoto slippers, Satie and Tchaikovsky slippers, and organic coton shopping bags. These exceptions will be pointed out on relevant product pages.
  • Pillows, comforters and mattress toppers are NOT machine washable. The reason is that the fill may not dry completely and may lead to mold conditions. Air these items out in the fresh air, away from direct sunlight, for a couple of hours every few months to keep fresh. Ths is why we recommend using our zippered organic cotton barrier protectors to protect these items. The protectors can then be unzipped and washed. Exceptions are the shredded natural rubber pillows which are machine washable because the small shredded fill can dry out.
  • Rugs are not machine washable or dryable. Handwoven bathmats can be machine washed separately from other garments. If you spill something on it that stains, soak it up as soon as possible. Please consult a professional rug cleaner.

Long Version of Care Instructions

(With TidBits On The Unique & Special Qualities Of Rawganique Products)

  • Because we don't use toxic chemicals to "size" or "de-lint" or "treat" or "wrinkle-proof" or "stain-proof" our products in any way, there are some simple steps that you need to take to care for your new organic clothing. We have all been spoiled by the advances in the chemical sciences that yield wrinkle-free clothing, stain-proof clothing, high-perfomance micro-fiber synthetic clothing, but these advances come at a potentially high cost to the environment and human health. At Rawganique, we revel in creating untreated, unprocessed organic clothing, footwear, and bed and bath products because our homsteading roots have given us a great deal of respect for nature, the fragility of our planet, and the potential cost of chemicals to the health of humans and wildlife. Our products are free from GMO, pesticides, toxic dyes, BPA, PVC, dioxin, formaldehyde, and forever chemicals like PFAS.
  • Linting is normal for naturally processed organic fabrics. This doesn't affect performance and will stop over time.
  • Naps in our hemp and linen fabrics and occasional skipped loops in our terry towels etc. are characteristic of truly natural non-homogenized products and aren't defects. A lot of manufacturers boil hemp fibers down with acids and other chemicals to homogenize them so they can be cheaply spun in cotton matchines, which defeat the purpose of hemp and weaken their structures. We don't do this. Our organic products reflect their unique characters created by nature. We simply showcase their beauty and strength in the products we make.
  • Our products can be steam ironed (hemp and linen at linen settings and organic cotton at cotton settings).

Shipping

We are located in Blaine, Washington, USA. Rawganique was founded in the Pacific Northwest by off-grid island homesteaders in 1997. We can ship to virtually any address in the world via FedEx and USPS. Depending on the shipping option you select, USA orders take 1 - 12 business days to reach you. Shipping within USA starts at $6 and most USA orders over $250 qualify for free shipping. International shipping via FedEx starts at $16. International orders usually take 2-7 business days unless there are unforeseen customs delays.

We normally ship orders on the same business day. We offer free shipping to most of USA on non-wholesale orders of $250 or more (depending on weight and size, some areas such as Alaska and Hawaii may not be eligible for this offer - we will let you know if that is the case).

We do not normally charge taxes for order outside of Washington state. While it's not common, once in a while your country may assess applicable customs fees or taxes, which would be your responsibility. As far as we know, there is no duty on products entering Canada that are made in USA or the EU, which all of our products are. Note that there are restrictions on some products, and some products cannot be shipped to international destinations.

When you place an order, we will estimate shipping and delivery dates for you based on the availability of your items and the shipping options you choose.

Returns Policy

You may return most new, unused, unwashed clothing, bag and footwear items in original condition within 30 days of delivery for exchange or a full refund of the product price (shipping is not refundable). For exchanges, please write a clear note specifying what you would like us to send in exchange.

Exceptions:

No return on hygiene items such as face mask, sleep mask, bodycare, or worn socks, bandanas, etc. No return on closeout or final sale items or any custom-made or modified or washed items. In consideration to our chemically sensitive customers, we cannot accept returns on products that have been exposed to perfume or cigarette or cigar smoke, etc. We cannot accept returns on bed or bath items. When you buy a bed or bath item from us, you're guaranteed to receive a new product from our workshop and not a returned product from someone else. If you're not sure about a bed or bath product, please buy a small item such as wash cloth or pillowcase to try before buying the whole set. Thank you for your understanding.

You should expect to receive your refund within one week of receipt by us; however, in many cases, you will receive a refund more quickly. Your bank may take another 5 - 10 business days to post the refund to your account. While we grow, weave, knit and sew our products without toxic chemicals, we cannot guarantee against sensitivity or allergies because there are simply too many of them.

If you need to return an item that is eligible under the terms outlined above, simply login to your account, view the order using the "Complete Orders" link under the My Account menu and click the Return Item(s) button for items that are not excluded from our return policy. We'll notify you via e-mail of your refund once we've received and processed the returned item.
