Most of our towels now feature an integral trim (the trim is part of the towel, not sewn on with piping tape like previously). Due to their small size, our wash cloths still have to be made with piping trim. Dimensions may vary some due to shrinkage in the wash at our sewing facility. We have made what we consider the most natural and pure towels possible. We have not chemically stripped our towels of cotton, hemp, or flax oils that are naturally present before looping them into our luxury terries; in contrast, most manufacturers use acids and chemicals to "process" the towels into the look and feel most people associate with conventional terry towels. Therefore, it takes a few washings before our towels reach full absorbency & fluffiness. Pilling in the first few washes is also normal and expected (again, we didn't use chemical means to stabilize the natural pilling process). We believe that this small inconvenience outweighs the dangers of using toxic acids and chemicals to make the towels fully absorbent from get-go. For hygienic reasons, towels are not returnable. If you are not sure, please buy a wash cloth and live with it for a while to see if you like it (wash it a few times to strip the oils). That way, you're not out much money and if you like the wash cloth, you can come back and buy the rest to complete the set.

Machine wash using mild biodegradable detergent. Hang or lay flat to dry. Tumble dry on low/gentle cycle; remove before dry. Steam iron at cotton setting, if desired.

Our extra-plush organic cotton terry weighs in at 600 grams per square meter, which makes it at least double the thickness of regular conventional cotton towels. Our thick, pure, and luxurious European-made organic cotton towels cannot be compared to many of the lesser quality, lower purity towels from elsewhere. Much of the price of our organic cotton towels goes towards high-quality organic raw materials and sweatshop-free labor.

We finish our organic towels in Germany and Denmark, where the greatest attention is paid to environmentally friendly washing practices. (Due to intense price competition from overseas, most if not all US manufacturers of organic cotton have sadly moved operations to the "cheap" labor countries, where labor and organic standards may not be as exacting as many of us would like. For us, Europe is the hub of organic awareness and conscientiousness right now in that regard — EU standards are as rigorous, if not more, than those in the US and Canada.)

Some of the most prestigious green-organic resorts, spas, retreats, and hotels around the world also obtain their organic towels from us. Our organic cotton towels are very gentle and ideal for people who suffer from multiple chemical sensitivities. Many dermatologists have been recommending our organic towels to their patients with severe skin allergies and patients who are sensitive to dyes, bleaches, and industrial chemicals and acids commonly used in the manufacturing of conventional cotton as well as so-called "green" cotton towels.

What else do I need to know?

Since we do not chemically strip the natural oils off our organic cotton fiber like many manufacturers do, it may take a few washings for your organic cotton towels to come into their full absorbency. For us, this is a small price to pay for purity, health, and sustainability. After a few washings, your organic cotton towels will be very absorbent. We recommend hanging your towels to dry; otherwise, you risk losing the lint (and the plush coziness) to the dryer.

Care instructions: Machine wash warm (60° Celsius or 140° Fahrenheit) (with a small amount of detergent) with like colors. We recommend a mild biodegradable detergent for best results. Avoid bleach, fabric softeners (which clog natural fibers and shorten their life span), and optical brighteners (most oxygen or hydrogen-peroxide brighteners available at health food stores are OK to use). Our organic cotton towels are machine dryable but many customers prefer to hang dry their towels to preserve the fiber integrity of the towel and prevent excessive linting.

Important Notice: Since we use natural looming techniques, some loops in the terry may get skipped or there may be extra threads in places. This is entirely normal and expected. If you come across loose threads, simply snip them off with sharp scissors close to the base. The toweling won't run. We thank you for your understanding; we try our best to maintain the integrity of heritage weaving, knitting, and looping practices, which may not yield as uniform a
result as conventional, chemically-treated towels.

Beware: "Natural Cotton" or "Green Cotton" are not organically grown cotton at all — both are conventionally grown cotton (with all the pesticides and chemical fertilizers that the conventional growing process entails. The "Natural" or "Green" in the terms simply refers to the fact that no "additional" chemicals were applied during the manufacturing process. As such, the terms Natural Cotton and Green Cotton are quite misleading as they in effect are generally exactly the same as conventionally grown cotton.

This point is especially important for people suffering from multiple chemical sensitivities: many befuddled chemically-sensitive customers have reported to us that the "Green Cotton" products they purchased elsewhere brought on the same allergic reactions as conventional cotton. To be sure of true purity, especially where it really matters like intimates and bedding and bath products, it's best to opt for third party certified organic cotton towels.
