It's not for nothing that the word "canvas" comes from the Greek word (via Dutch) for Cannabis Hemp. For years and years until synthetics (!) came along, canvas meant hemp and hemp was the overwhelming fiber of choice for ship's sails, ropes, artists' canvas, clothing, paper, household products, bedding linens, and more, thanks to its ability to withstand cold, wind, rain, sun, salt water, and rough use. It's also naturally anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and acid-free (so won't yellow over time).
