We have all heard whispered in hushed tones of the deliciousness & exquisiteness of fine French linens and Irish linens of yesteryear. Writers waxed poetic about them and poets lovingly penned tributes to their sensual texture and style (linen sheets were often described as "decadent" and "sinful" because they were exceptionally lush & beautiful). In fact, they were so revered in the Old World that one of the most important heirlooms a mother could give to her daughter on her wedding day were the linens that her mother had passed on to her on her own wedding day. Quality linens were the ties that bound generations, thanks to their durability and beauty that time only serves to enhance.

100% organic linen yarns. Made in Europe (depending on production lot, our organic French linen sheets may be finished in Denmark, Germany, or Romania). Sweatshop-free.

When we started making organic linens 10 years ago, we set out to recreate heritage linens in the purest possible way, made with certified organic natural fibers without chemicals, heavy metals, dyes, or synthetics. Many kind customers have given us valuable feedback over the years, telling us how much they loved their linens. Most found their linens durable, with some, notably those who wash their linens in top loaders and dry them in electric dryers, noticing that their linens wore out over time.

Many factors determine durability of sheets, including how often they are washed, how they are washed (front loaders on gentle cycle is best), what kind of detergent is used to wash them (we recommend the gentlest possible detergent like our certified organic soapnuts), and how they are dried (line drying is best — electric dryers eat up the lint in sheets), and our modern lifestyle seems a long way away from the chemical-free world of yesteryear. One can only do one's best, and our best is offering you the purest and most sustainable sheets we can.

» How are your French linen sheets different?

They are certified organic, very fine, and at half the price of some of the high-end conventional non-organic French and Irish linen sheets. We select only premium-grade linen from certified organic flax plants grown in France. Then we custom-weave the fabric for cutting and sewing into our fine organic linen sheets, so there are never any issues with chemicals, pesticides, or industrial chemicals and toxins getting into our sheets from third-party sources.

Our organic linen sheets are 100% sweatshop-free and made in the European Union (where the tradition of heritage linens originated) for true purity and sustainability. Absolutely no heavy metals or harsh chemicals were used in the production of our organic sheets.

Much of the price of our organic French linen sheets goes towards high-quality organic raw materials and sweatshop-free labor, which in our opinion is as it should be.

» What colors do you offer?

We offer the natural color of flax linen, which we call Evening Sand Dunes, in addition to the traditional Ivory (we use hydrogen peroxide to whiten our sheets instead of harmful chlorine-based bleach). Evening Sand Dunes is rare and unique to us, as most manufacturers out there chemically bleach their linen sheets to a very white color.

  • Color of organic flax linen is determined by the harvest season (if rainy, then a darker color and more grey; if sunny, then a lighter color and more beige). This is not within our control. It's how Mother Nature gives it. Variations in color shades may occur from batch to batch. We aim to make products that are pure, sustainable, and well-made. But we cannot guarantee that Natural color will always be uniform, all the time. Variations in Natural is part and parcel of the charms of buying natural products. If you are particular about color matching, then please go with Ivory, which has been through a hydrogen-peroxide wash (the byproducts of which are water and oxygen) and offers a more uniform shade. If you order sheets and matching duvet covers in the same order, we'll do our best to mak sure that all the items in the set are in the same shade.

Please note: If the harvest season is hot & dry, then the Evening Sand Dunes color (natural color) is lighter (more beige and sometimes more blond/cream); if the harvest season is rainy or cool, the color is darker (more grey). We have no control over the Natural color in natural fibers, as we do not bleach or dye them. If you have a strong preference either way, let us know and we'll do our best to comply, but we cannot guarantee a certain shade of Natural.
» What's the thread count?

Linens from baste fibers like hemp and linen are not measured in terms of thread count, so there is no direct way to compare linen sheets to the thread count of organic cotton sheets. Instead, linen is measured by fabric weight and our exclusive, specially-woven organic linen sheets weigh in at a very fine 5 oz / sq. yard by linen standards.

Our Organic French Linen Sheets are comparable in weight and feel to traditional Irish linen sheets and French linen sheets. After washing, the fabric softens and becomes tighter in the weave.

» What's so special about linen sheets?

Like hemp, linen fiber is hollow at the core and thus provides a good insulation value. It keeps you cool in summer (hence the popularity of linen clothing in summer) and cozy in winter (linen and hemp curtains are very effective insulators; hemp ropes are traditionally used to insulate log walls). Linen and hemp are versatile ancient fibers that have been in use for thousands of years, long before cotton became commercially available.

» What are linen sheets like?

Fine French linens have long symbolized elegance and comfort. To connoisseurs, fine linens have a distinctly luxurious hand, full of texture and character. The occurrence of naps across the fabric is completely normal. They are not imperfections but rather the characteristic of a truly natural, strong, and superior linen fiber. Our organic linen sheets are finished crisp per tradition; they will soften dramatically in the first wash. Daily use and successive washings will further enhance their coziness and softness.

» Why are your organic French linen sheets less expensive than many non-organic conventional Irish and French linen sheets?

Because we manufacture and sell direct to consumers without middle people. Our markup is also a lot lower than traditional brick-and-mortar stores. We have been selling organic French linen sheets since 2000.

» Who buys your organic French linen sheets?

People who know and appreciate fine French linens all over the world. The added bonus of course is that our sheets are organic so are better for the environment and purer for your health, too. Our organic French linen sheets are used in some of the most prestigious green-organic spas, resorts, retreats, and hotels around the world. They have also been written up in many publications, including Elle Magazine's piece on Vanessa Noel's gorgeous Hotel Green in Nantucket which uses our organic sheets, towels, bathrobes, and shower curtains. Our sheets have also been used in many films (including one starring Jennifer Lopez) that strove to replicate the mood and ambience of a bygone era, and authentic linen sheets are an essential part of that.

» How would you describe your organic French linen sheets?

Gorgeous heritage-quality bed linens, finished crisp per centuries-old tradition. Similar feel to Irish linen sheets. If you've never touched or seen authentic linen sheets, we recommend buying a pillowcase to live with for a while. Then you'll have a very good idea what it's like to sleep on delicious French linen sheets. Some of our customers actually travel with their sheets; that's how much they love them.

» How do I care for my organic linen sheets?

Machine wash warm (delicate cycle) with like colors and hang or lay flat to dry on a clothesline. We do not recommend machine drying as dry heat causes excessive wrinkling and is hard on 100% linen fabrics. That said, however, many customers have reported that they routinely machine dry their hemp and linen sheets and clothing on low or air dry setting and remove them from the dryer just before the sheets or clothing are dry with no ill effects. If desired, our hemp and linen clothing and sheets may be ironed at the highest temperature setting for that classic crisp linen look.

Front loading washing machines are best, as they are gentler on the clothes and also lighter on the planet (front loading machines use way less water and require less detergent than top loading ones). Your organic linen sheets will also last a lot longer with front loading machines than top loading machines. This recommendation goes for all of our organic cotton, hemp, and linen clothing & home products that are washable.

We at Rawganique.com have been in awe of the very finest authentic French linens and Irish linens from the Old World for some time and have been hunting down skilled weavers who could bring that magic back for our discerning customers who won't settle for anything less than true purity and environmental sustainability in their everyday lives. Making fine French linens requires a rare craftsmanship and attention to detail that very few weavers possess. There's nothing like the genuine article and nothing like the feel of true French linens from talented weavers (especially when the linens are made from certified organic flax fibers).

So, on the heels of our extremely successful introduction of the world's only organic European hemp linen sheets, we now offer you our Euro-Luxury Collection of authentic organic French linen sheets. A tad finer (tighter weave using finer yarns) and crisper than our Ecru CannaBliss 100% European Hemp Linens and featuring a continuous weave with no seams, our organic flax linens are offered in your choice of two traditional, timeless, and elegant colors. If you need more color choices, may we recommend our Organic Hemp Linen Sheets, which are offered in 6 colors.

  • Ivory (the classic soft white color from a bleach-free hydrogen peroxide whitening)
  • Evening Sand Dunes (natural color of flax linen, unbleached & undyed; extremely rare as most of the manufacturers of conventional Irish or French linen sheets we know bleach their linens). Shade may vary slightly from batch to batch due to the weather during harvest season: it's part of the charm of natural color.

As far as linen sheets go, both our Organic French Linens and our Organic Hemp Linen Sheets are as pure and as fine as sheets can be.

In the old days, the word "linens", which today we associate exclusively with flax linen, actually referred interchangeably to either hemp or flax linen or a combination thereof. Hemp and flax were often thought of as sister fibers because both are as sustainable and pure as the other. One would often choose between the two based on one's color preference (flax is darker than hemp but both can be whitened with hydrogen peroxide to a soft ivory color).

Made entirely from organically grown European flax linen fibers, our Euro-Luxury Linen Sheets -- the latest addition to our complete line of pure and sustainable bed, bath, and clothing items -- will wow you with their thoughtfulness and simple beauty borne of nature's perfect elegance. The linen construction is finely textured (and probably the oldest weaving process known/recorded), so if you are looking for the smoothness of cotton sheets (which some linen connoisseurs characterize as rather bland and void of texture), then linen sheets are not for you.

However, if you appreciate the sensual texture that only baste fibers like hemp and flax linen can provide, or if you already know about fine French linens and fine Irish linens, then you'd definitely not want to spend a night without our Euro-Luxury Organic French Linen Sheets. A couple of minutes under our organic linen sheets is all it takes to warm you up all over even on the coldest of nights. Conversely, our organic linen sheets will also keep you comfortably cool in the heat of summer, thanks to the breathable hollow cores of the flax fibers, which both insulate and wick away moisture at a fast rate, so you'll never feel trapped in perspiration like with non-breathable sheets made from polyester and other synthetic fibers.

That said and textural facts aside, choosing quality linens is a matter of personal preference. If you want to familiarize yourself with real linens, we recommend getting a linen pillowcase (which we offer at a special introductory price for this very purpose) to try on for texture and feel as our sheets are not returnable due to reasons of hygiene.

We invite you to luxuriate in the coziness, softness, durability, and exclusiveness of our heritage Euro-Luxury Organic French Linen Sheets. The luscious texture of the linen weave will caress your skin as you sleep and insulate you from worldly cares, keeping you cozy and warm on cool nights and brisk and cool on warm nights (thanks to the hemp and flax fibers' naturally hollow fibers which insulate and breathe wonderfully well).

We can't say enough about the superb craftsmanship of our European weavers and finishers. They turned out a truly rarefied product -- the genuine article of heritage linens, worthy of the finest weavers of yore. They've been doing this for years and it shows in every elegant detail of our exclusive Organic French Linens. Furthermore, because we use only certified organic flax linen yarns (so their structural integrity has not been compromised by pesticides or processing chemicals of any kind), you get the true durability for which heritage European linens are known all over the world.

If you are looking for more color choices (or to accent your linen sheets with colorful duvet covers), then we recommend our Ecru CannaBliss Hemp Linen Sheet Collection, which comes in more colors. Please click here to read about our Ecru CannaBliss Collection and view current color selections.

Our Euro-Luxury Organic Linen Sheets are uniformly 15" deep in all fitted sizes and are all seamless, thanks to the massive loom that our European weaver uses.

A perfect gift to bestow on yourself and your loved ones, especially on special occasions, our authentic heritage French linens are worthy of being passed on from generation to generation, providing much-needed continuity in this modern world of ours (which sadly is becoming more and more disjointed and disconnected by the day).

Our Euro-Luxury Linen Sheets are truly natural and pure and made the traditional way from certified organic French flax linen yarns, with no polyester or anything synthetic added; we let the gorgeous flax linen yarns speak for themselves. In the production of our organic linen sheets, we are ever mindful of the environment (no heavy metals or harsh chemicals were used) and of human rights (workers are paid fair wages and working conditions are strictly sweatshop-free).

A line from Agatha Christie — that great paragon of exquisite taste who popularized the rarefied atmosphere of luxury — comes to mind and we quote:

"Miss Marple was helped into the taxi with every possible care and decided on the spur of the moment to go to Robinson and Cleaver's and look at their splendid offer of real linen sheets...Her mind was filled with pleasurable anticipation of linen sheets, linen pillow cases...Miss Marple had a very enjoyable time at Robinson and Cleaver's. Besides purchasing expensive but delicious sheets--she loved linen sheets with their texture and their coolness..." From At Bertram's Hotel by Agatha Christie

Enjoy...and Bonne Nuit!

We offer our Organic French Linen Sheets in two weights:

  • Fine is our original weight / weave. It's cozy and authentic and a time-tested customer favorite. Comparable to traditional Irish linen weave.

Weight: nm. 16/1 yarns, weight 220g/ sqm (6.5 ounces/square yard)

  • Extra Fine goes a step beyond the fine weave to offer an extra-fine weave that is rarefied, comparable to the most delicious linens coming from a handful of the very best weavers in old-world Europe. It is very light yet still retains all the superlative qualities that heritage linens are famous for. Not all weavers can make extra-fine linens and not all flax can be used for this extra-fine weave. It is slightly more expensive than the fine weight because only the finest organic flax yarns can yield the smoothness, crispness, and heritage texture of this extra-fine weave. It is almost see-through at first, but with the first washing, the yarns soften and expand to yield an extra-fine, extra-silky linen that is treasured the world over.

    Weight: nm 24/1 yarns 190g/sqm (5.6 ounces/square yard)
