All are made from certified organic hemp that is processed without chemicals or pesticides of any kind in Romania. Only water and mechanical combing were used to process the hemp fiber. No caustic sodas or acids were used at any time (processes which are very common in the processing of Chinese hemp).

You won't get more eco-friendly than with these sustainable hemp backpacks, which have the highest hemp content of any "hemp" backpacks we've seen and are the strongest by far of the many "hemp" backpacks we have tested.

All are available in Natural, Black, Blue, Green (maybe Sage--or dark Forest Green--shown further down with other color swatches--depending on dye batch), and brand-new Earth Brown.

• HBP2 Cinch ($55) Classic cinch drawstring cinch closure. Shown above and below right in Earth Brown.
• HBP3 Zip ($49) An all-purpose basic backpack featuring a zippered closure in the main compartment and a zippered compartment in lower front.
• HBP4 Mini ($39) Just the size for toting sundry things around town, to class, or on a casual day's hike. This is a very popular model that's handy, practical, and fun to use. One main compartment and two small zippered compartments opened by two parallel vertical zippers on the front side of the backpack.
• HBP5 Deluxe ($99) This is the hemp backpack to get if you need a sturdy backpack with lots of room, pockets, and compartments. Luxury padded straps make lugging even the heaviest of books a cinch. This hemp backpack is so roomy it can easily double up as a camping/overnight backpack. Cut very big so maybe too large for some to lug around or for petite individuals to carry comfortably.
• HBP6 Sling ($74) A classy shoulder sling-style backpack that features lots of pockets as well as a cellular phone compartment on the wide strap. Photo bottom of page.
